Take an honest look at your board with Self-Assessment for Credit Union Boards, an anonymous, online assessment tool. It covers key areas of governance, including:
- The credit union’s mission, vision and purpose
- Strategic planning

- Relationship between board and staff
- Orientation process for new board members
- Risk management policies
The questionnaire includes multiple-choice questions and generous space for comments—encouraging candid feedback.
Three Options for Assessment
- Assessment Only – Your board completes the assessment online and CUES returns the results directly to you for further analysis.
- Assessment and Summary Report – After your board completes the assessment, CUES will review the results and compile an executive summary report. The confidential report includes specific analysis of strengths and weakness, and provides guidance for moving forward. This option takes the analysis out of your board’s hands and offers an impartial summary of the assessment results.
- Board Assessment Facilitation – With the assessment and summary report complete, CUES brings a professional facilitator to your credit union. Choose from a one-day or multi-day retreat. The facilitator will encourage open dialogue and keep the discussion on topic. Our impartial facilitator can also help address areas of conflict in a non-threatening way.
The Process
We’ll set up the assessment for you and provide an e-mail that includes a link to the online questionnaire and instructions for completing it.
Directors log in online to complete the questionnaire. They can start the assessment, save their work and return to complete it later. It takes less than 60 minutes.
Once all questionnaires are completed, we’ll provide the results to you (option 1 above); or analyze the results and compile the executive summary report (option 2 above); or analyze the results, compile the executive summary report and send a professional facilitator to do a one- or multi-day retreat with your board (option 3 above).
