H. C. "Hank" Klein retired in June, 2005 as the President/Chief Executive Officer of Arkansas Federal Credit Union, the largest credit union in the state of Arkansas with $409 million in assets serving nearly 60,000 members.  Over the past 38 years he has held management positions in credit unions serving the U.S. Air Force located in both Arkansas and Florida.

Klein has been involved in his local community as a past board member of the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce and the Jacksonville Museum of Military History.

During his Credit Union career Klein was also actively involved in the broader Credit Union movement,  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES), Credit Union – 24 (a nationwide credit union ATM Network).  He also has served on the Advisory Board of XP Systems (AFCU’s data processing software provider) and America’s Credit Union Museum.  He is a Past Chairman of the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) and NAFCU Services Corporation. He has also served as a member of the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Federal Credit Union Subcommittee and their Reserve Study Commission, as well as the Legislative Action Committee of the Arkansas Credit Union League, as the Treasurer of Southeast Corporate Federal Credit Union and as a member of the Thrift Institutions Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors.

Additionally, he has written “Cost Control: 130 Proven Ways to Boost Your Bottom Line” which was published twice by CUES and developed one of the first all open-end loan systems – the XPress Loan System – for Credit Unions.  Klein has won both NAFCU’s Professional of the Year Award and CUES’s Executive of the Year Award.  He is the only Credit Union CEO to have ever received both awards in the same year. Additionally in 2002 NAFCU selected Klein as one of the 10 individuals who have been the most influential within the Federal credit union community over the past 35 years.

Klein is now involved in his local community as the founder of Arkansans Against Abusive Payday Lending.  He is also a Leadership Volunteer for Financial Issues for AARP/Arkansas and he volunteers as a Docent at the Clinton Presidential Center and the Governor’s Mansion in Little Rock.
