Honored: The National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions recently honored Helen Godfrey-Smith, president/CEO of Shreveport Federal Credit Union, Shreveport, La., as a 2012 recipient of the Annie Vamper "Helping Hands" Awards. Celebrating the organization's late associate director, Annie Wilma Vamper, the awards are presented to individuals whose unselfish works carry on Vamper’s legacy and whose contributions to their credit unions and communities have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and exemplify CDCU values.
Alliant Credit Union, Chicago, has been named to the 2012 Honor Roll of Center for Companies That Care, a national not-for-profit, dedicated to ensuring social sustainability by engaging employers in improving the lives of employees, families and communities. The CU was selected for its strong commitment to developing great leaders and for positively impacting the community. The CU has one CUES member.
New Position: Banker Andrew Rosen is the new president/CEO of Hawaii State Federal Credit Union, Honolulu. He was most recently chief marketing officer for Bank of the West in San Francisco.
Community Involvement: Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, Lowell, Mass., was pleased to participate in this year’s Rebuilding Together Lowell program. Fifteen employees dedicated eight hours on a Saturday to repairing and rehabilitating the home of a couple in their 60s, who suffer from health problems.
The CU has six CUES members.
CFE Federal Credit Union, Lake Mary, Fla., members and employees recently responded to the simple needs of local students by collecting new socks, undergarments and books for donation to several school district organizations. The CU donated a total of 1,170 clothing items. Additional funds were collected during a corporate-wide jeans day, whereby employees who contributed $5 to support the drive were allowed to wear jeans to work. The CU also opened all 19 of its branches as designated drop-off locations for a book drive. Members and employees donated close to 1,000 new and gently used children’s books along with $300. The CU has 11 CUES members.
Employees from Security Service Federal Credit Union’s Salt Lake City and Orem, Utah, branches volunteered their time on a recent Saturday to help members protect their identities by shredding personal documents. More than 200 people stopped by CU branches to take advantage of the credit union’s free shred day. The CU has five CUES members.
CUES Supplier Member News: CO-OP Financial Services, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., is partnering with Diebold, Inc., to provide greater personalized service and convenience to credit union members by testing two-way video member service on CO-OP Network at Diebold ATMs.
PSCU, St. Petersburg, Fla., was named one of the best places to work by Workplace Dynamics, an independent company that conducts employee surveys for companies headquartered in the Tampa Bay area and creates lists of rankings for small, medium and large companies. Surveys ask employees to rate their employers in six categories: corporate direction, working conditions, career opportunities, execution (quality of decision-making), managers and pay/benefits. In addition to being highly ranked in these categories, PSCU had a very high response rate among its employees—the number of respondents from the cooperative was almost twice the average for other companies.
