Anniversary: State Employees’ Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C., is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The CU has one CUES member.

Appointed: Caren Gabriel, president/CEO of Ascend Federal Credit Union of Tullahoma, Tenn., was appointed to the board of CUNA Mutual Holding Company, effective June 1.

Honored: Security Service Federal Credit Union, San Antonio, has been selected as Uvalde’s Business of the Month for May by the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce. The CU has five CUES members.

Wauna Federal Credit Union, Clatskanie, Ore., was recently named by Oregon Business Magazine as one of the top 100 green businesses in Oregon. The CU, which placed at number 93, is the only credit union to make the top 100. According to the magazine, the annual rankings honor those companies and organizations where employees feel there is a strong commitment to green practices at their workplace. The CU has two CUES members.

Charleston Southern University has presented Troy Hall, chief operations officer of South Carolina Federal Credit Union, North Charleston, S.C., with the Outstanding MBA Student of the Year Award. Hall obtained his master’s degree in business administration from the school and is now pursuing his Ph.D. in global leadership and entrepreneurship with an emphasis on the impact of generational preferences, or genernomics™ at Regent University.

Name Change: Florida Commerce Credit Union, Tallahassee, Fla., is changing its name to First Commerce Credit Union. The credit union announced that its first planned step toward regional expansion will be the opening this summer of a financial center in Thomasville, Ga. The CU has six CUES members.

New Headquarters: Construction is complete on the new 4,350-square-foot First Financial Credit Union main office in Chicago. Following seven months of construction, the credit union opened its doors on May 21 and held the official grand opening celebration on June 7. The CU has one CUES member.

Promotion: Cheryl L. Hill has been promoted to the new executive vice president/chief financial officer at Fremont Federal Credit Union, Fremont, Ohio. Previously, she was VP/finance.

Retirement/New Position: Mike Haggard is retiring as president of HealthNet Federal Credit Union, Cordova, Tenn. He will be succeeded by Bill Whitten, currently vice president of the credit union.

DeLon Gobeli, 1992 CUES Director of the Year, has retired from the board of Veridian Credit Union, Waterloo, Iowa, after 38 years of volunteer service.

Community Involvement: The Consumers Credit Union Cash Car will be making numerous stops in Kalamazoo and throughout West Michigan in June. Visitors to the Cash Car can win cash (up to $50) and prizes by answering fun financial trivia. All visitors will be registered to win an iPad, with a drawing to be held at the end of the year. The CU has six CUES members.

The Broomall Branch of Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union, Broomall, Pa., held its annual free shred event in May in an effort to preserve the environment and help prevent identity theft.  During the three-hour, Saturday morning event, Wiggins Shredding of West Chester destroyed 16,100 pounds of confidential material and securely shredded over eight tons of paper. The CU has eight CUES members.

San Diego County Credit Union announced it is supporting the local performing arts community as a sponsor of the Broadway/San Diego 2012-2013 season. The CU has three CUES members.

Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., was a Shining Star Sponsor for the Arthritis Foundation Walk at the Detroit Zoo. The CU donated $2,500 from its employee casual day fund toward the cause. The CU has three CUES members.

Supplier Member News: IDG's CIO magazine has announced CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., is among its 2012 CIO 100 honorees. The 25th annual awards program recognizes organizations around the world that exemplify the highest level of operational and strategic excellence in information technology. CUNA Mutual Group was selected for its Smartphone Loan technology. The recently released mobile Web application enables credit union members to apply for a loan anywhere they take their smartphones.
