Honored: Seven credit unions and executives were recognized for their work and dedication with the League of Southeastern Credit Unions’ LSCU Awards, including several current and former CUES members:
- Distinguished Service Award: James G. “Jimmy” Lankford, past president, Alabama Credit Union;
- Professional of the Year: Rich Helber, president/CEO, Tropical Financial Credit Union;
- Volunteer of the Year: Martha Frasier, board vice chair, Space Coast Credit Union;
In addition, the following CUs were named Credit Union of the Year:
- Up to $100 million in assets: Monroe County Teachers Federal Credit Union, with one CUES member in Key West, Fla.;
- $100-$500 in assets: Alabama Credit Union with seven CUES members in Tuscaloosa, Ala.;
- $500 or more: Army Aviation Federal Credit Union, with seven CUES members in Daleville, Ala.; and
- Brother’s Keeper: Pen Air Federal Credit Union, with seven CUES members in Pensacola, Fla.
Merger: Kitsap Credit Union, with three CUES members, Bremerton, Wash., is merging in $47 million Quimper Community Federal Credit Union, with one CUES member, Port Townsend, Wash.
New Position: Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union, Van Nuys, Calif., has appointed Evany J. Perkins as VP/branch operations and communications. Previously, she was VP/member services for Los Angeles Firemen’s Credit Union.
PSCU, St. Petersburg, Fla., has named Peter Halenar as its VP/business development, partnerships and strategic alliances. He will be responsible for developing, managing and growing the CUSO’s alliance and partner programs that will deliver new product offerings and strengthen revenue generation for PSCU’s member-owner credit unions.
Promotion: Judy Morin, VP/financial services at Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union, Biddeford, Maine, has been promoted to president/CEO. She succeeds Jay Chapin, who left the credit union last fall.
Community Involvement: Financial Partners Credit Union, Downey, Calif., is sponsoring the Columbia Memorial Space Center's "Great Balls of Fire: Comets, Asteroids and Meteors" exhibit during its summer run at the center through Sept. 16. The credit union's sponsorship will help bring the exhibit to the surrounding Downey communities and Los Angeles County schools. The CU has two CUES members.
Tinker Federal Credit Union, Oklahoma City, Okla., recently presented a donation of $18,970 to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The donation, the result of a TFCU member response initiative, will help provide nearly 100,000 meals to hungry Oklahomans. The CU has nine CUES members.
CUES Supplier Member News: Credit Union 24, Tallahassee, Fla., announced the retirement of President/CEO Jim Park at the end of 2012. Mansel Guerry, who joined the Credit Union 24 staff in January as EVP/administration, will succeed him as the incoming president/CEO.
John Mathes has joined Weber Marketing Group, Seattle, as senior brand strategist. Mathes, who will operate out of the firm’s new Atlanta office, brings 30 years of senior agency and innovative marketing experience at some of the nation's largest advertising agencies, branding and branch strategy firms, including Brandpartners and CUES Supplier Member Bancography.
