Anniversary: Quincy Credit Union, Quincy, Mass., is celebrating its 75th anniversary. The CU has one CUES member.

Honored: Barry Jolette, president/CEO of San Mateo Credit Union, Redwood City, Calif., has received the World Council of Credit Unions’ Distinguished Service Award, the global credit union industry's highest honor. The award was presented to Jolette, a former WOCCU chair who represented the United States on the board, during the WOCCU conference’s closing awards ceremony in Gdan´sk last week.

New Position: Joe Mirachi is the new president/CEO of Kennedy Space Center Federal Credit Union, Merritt Island, Fla. Previously, he was president/CEO of Old Pueblo Credit Union, Tucson, Ariz. He succeeds Maureen Lowe, CCE, who is retiring.

Brooke Van Vleet is the new president/CEO of St. Helen’s Community Federal Credit Union, St. Helens, Ore. Previously, she was chief administrative officer at First Tech Federal Credit Union, Beaverton, Ore.


Kenneth Barnshaw is the new VP/governmental affairs at South Jersey Federal Credit Union, Deptford, N.J. He was AVP/business development at the CU before serving for the past 18 months as Deptford township manager.

Retirement/Promotion: Charlotte Cash, CCE, is the new president/CEO of CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union, Alexandria, Va. Previously, she was VP/retail sales/marketing at the CU. She succeeds John Blair, CCE, who recently retired.

Stephanie Sherrodd, CCE, has been named president/CEO of Texas Dow Employees Credit Union, Lake Jackson, Texas. Previously she was VP/branch administration. She’ll take over for Edward Speed, who is retiring Oct. 1.

Community Involvement: Hershey Federal Credit Union’s annual Youth Day celebration was a huge success, with 100 children and their families participating. The event was highlighted by a sidewalk chalk decorating contest with gift card prizes. Other activities included face painting, financial trivia, and money-themed arts and crafts. The Hummelstown, Pa., CU has one CUES member.
 
North Peace Savings and Credit Union, Fort St. John, British Columbia, saw close to 30 employees and their families participate in the Big Bike ride to support the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The fundraiser is a fun and inspiring team-building event held on a one-of-a-kind bike built for 30 participants. The CU team crossed the finish line with a total of $9,315 raised. The CU has six CUES members.


Twenty-three business and community leaders, professionals and teachers are competing for the privilege to kiss a pig in TruMark Financial® Credit Union’s Second Annual Kiss-a-Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser, supporting schools lacking the resources needed to teach students responsible personal finance. Over the next three months, participants will be raising money from sponsors to see them kiss a pig in support of financial literacy. The CU in Trevose, Pa., has one CUES member.

US Federal Credit Union, Burnsville, Minn., sponsored the Dakota County Technical College Entrepreneurship team as it competed in the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference competition in Kansas City, Mo. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit that promotes success in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. The competition highlights the work of technical education students in 94 different fields. The DCTC team presented a business plan in the entrepreneurship portion of the competition. The plan, which detailed unique ideas for aquaponics and urban farming, resonated with the judges and was awarded a Gold Medallion, the competition’s highest honor. The CU has two CUES members.


CUES Supplier Member News: CU Holding Company, LLC, Lenexa, Kans., announces that Larry Hayes has joined the CUSO as president/CEO. CU Holding Company manages investments in six CUSOs, including CUES Supplier member Beyond Marketing, LLC. Previously, Hayes served as VP/marketing and business development at First Service Credit Union, Houston.
