Honored: Amplify Credit Union, Austin, Texas, has been named the winner in the Large Business Category for Customer Service at the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce’s 2012 Greater Austin Business Awards. The award recognizes an organization dedicated to outstanding customer service and satisfaction in all aspects of sales and service. The CU has nine CUES members through a CUES Executive Group Membership.
Two Arizona credit unions were honored with a prestigious national award. $1.3 billion Arizona State Credit Union, Phoenix, and $1.1 billion Vantage West Credit Union, Tucson, are 2012 winners of The Principal® 10 Best Companies for Employee Financial Security. The Principal Financial Group sponsors this national program, now in its 11th year, that honors growing companies (five-1,000 employees) for their commitment to their employees’ financial security. Arizona State CU has five CUES members and Vantage West CU has 13 CUES members through a CUES Executive Group Membership.

New Position: Salal Credit Union, Seattle, has hired several new employees. Geoff Swarts is the new SVP/chief financial officer. He previously spent 30 years at Bank of America, holding several positions, including SVP/process design consultant-retail sales. Skott Pope is the new SVP/retail financial services. Previously he was senior manager/member solutions at BECU, Seattle. Michelle Purnell-Hepburn is the new VP/controller. She returns to Salal CU after serving as SVP/chief financial officer for Seattle Metropolitan Credit Union.
Promotion: Sandra Hollenberg has been promoted to CEO of YS Federal Credit Union, Yellow Springs, Ohio. Previously, she was the CU’s chief operating officer. She replaces Karen Wolf, who resigned on July 26.
Community Involvement: 24 young campers from St. Mary’s Home for Disabled Children have been able to experience new adventures thanks to a $20,800 grant from the We Promise Foundation, the charitable arm of Chartway Federal Credit Union, Virginia Beach, Va. As the sole sponsorship of this year’s summer camp experience, these funds enabled children who have severe intellectual and physical disabilities to attend an eight-week summer camp designed to enhance their cognitive, physical and emotional health through weekly field trips, art sessions, sports activities, music lessons and outdoor game play. It also provided them with a chance to experience a renewed sense of freedom and independence as a result of access to adaptive items and equipment for swimming, crafting and exercising. The CU has four CUES members.
Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., will partner with the Peckham Community Partnership Foundation to host the 2012 Art From the Heart exhibit. This program provides professional, individualized instruction in the visual arts to artists with significant disabilities and other barriers to employment. Artwork will be displayed in MSU FCU’s headquarters lobby, Sept. 7-25. The CU has nine CUES members through a CUES Executive Group Membership.
San Francisco Federal Credit Union has donated $1,500 in support of the Tenth Annual Bowl-A-Strike for Seniors event, held by Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly. On Aug. 18, five San Francisco FCU employees went to Presidio Bowl in San Francisco for a day of bowling, food, prizes and fundraising. Funds will go directly toward holiday events where volunteers provide home deliveries and friendly visits on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day to more than 500 isolated elders. The CU has 10 CUES members through a CUES Executive Group Membership.
