Anniversary: Dow Chemical Employees’ Credit Union, Midland, Mich., commemorated 75 years of service with a weeklong Diamond Anniversary celebration that included food and entertainment; discounted loan rates and a drawing for a seven-day, six-night vacation to Diamond Head, Hawaii. The CU has two CUES members.

Appointed: Laura Castro de Cortes, VP/alternative financial services for Centris Federal Credit Union, Omaha, Neb., was named a member of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s new Consumer Advisory Board. In addition, several CUES members were named to the CFPB’s new Credit Union Advisory Council. They are:

•    Rose Bartolomucci, CCE, president of Towpath Credit Union, Fairlawn, Ohio;
•    Gary Bell, CEO of Cooperative Federal Credit Union, Berkeley, Calif.;
•    Carla Decker, CEO of District Government Employees Federal Credit Union, Washington, D.C.;
•    Kevin Foster-Keddie, president/CEO of Washington State Employees Credit Union, Olympia, Wash.;
•    Maria Martinez, president/CEO of Border Federal Credit Union, Del Rio, Texas;
•    Marcus Schaefer, president/CEO of Truliant Federal Credit Union, Winston Salem, N.C.; and
•    Gregg Stockdale, president/CEO of 1st Valley CU, San Bernardino, Calif.

Honored: Michael D. Kloiber, CCUE, president/CEO of Tinker Federal Credit Union, Oklahoma City, Okla., has been inducted into the Defense Credit Union Council’s Hall of Honor. The council’s recognition task force selected Kloiber for his “passionate advocacy on behalf of the credit union movement and his steadfast support of the defense community.”

Nancy Seguin, AVP/human resources manager at Workers' Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., has been named a 2012 Credit Union Hero by Banker & Tradesman, a Boston-based publisher of banking and real-estate data. The award recognizes CU professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and the community, giving freely of their time, energy and resources for volunteerism, community service and charity. Seguin has been an employee team captain for the United Way of North Central Massachusetts and the Greater Gardner Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.

Merger: Three CUs in central Ohio have merged. On Aug. 1, Powerco Credit Union, Members First Credit Union and Western Credit Union, all of Columbus, became branches of a new entity, $190 million Pathways Financial Credit Union. Powerco CU has six members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group membership. Members First CU has five members as part of its CUES Executive Group membership.

Milestone: Landmark Credit Union, New Berlin, Wis., has reached $2 billion in assets. The CU has two CUES members.

In thanks for helping Navy Federal Credit Union, Vienna, Va., grow to four million members, the CU is hosting its first-ever worldwide Member Appreciation Week Sept. 17-23. The credit union invites all its members to enjoy special events and unprecedented offers at any one of its 222 branches around the world. The CU has four CUES members. 

New Position: Richard Senechal is the new president/CEO of DUCA Credit Union, Toronto. He replaces Jack Vanderkooy, CCE, who is now president of SJ Vanderkooy & Associates.

Community Involvement: Eleven high schools in north Texas are the beneficiaries of nearly $110,000 from Texas Trust Credit Union, Mansfield, Texas, thanks to its Spirit Debit Reward card. More than 725,000 debit card purchases were made with the cards between August 2011 and July 2012, generating 15 cents each time for participating schools. The CU has 12 members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group membership.

Rogue Federal Credit Union, Medford, Ore., has sponsored a new hardwood floor for Southern Oregon University’s McNeal Pavilion. The CU has two CUES members.

CUES Supplier Member News: CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., has been ranked No. 75 on this year’s InformationWeek 500, a list of the top technology innovators in the U.S. The annual list was announced at the InformationWeek 500 Conference.

To provide its financial institution clients with valuable consumer behavior data, payments processor The Members Group, Des Moines, Iowa, has made an equity investment in data analytics firm IQR Consulting. The California-based firm uses data analysis to help companies anticipate market changes and respond to changing business conditions. Launch of an initial product prototype is planned for later this year. This product will provide data on cardholder behaviors, such as credit cardholder engagement and activation rates, providing an overall credit card portfolio health score. In addition, the product will offer tools for peer comparison so CUs and community banks can understand how their credit card portfolios are performing as compared to similar institutions. A comparable product is planned for analysis of debit card portfolios.
