Anniversary: San Mateo Credit Union, Redwood City, Calif., marked its 60th anniversary with a reception for members and local dignitaries at the San Mateo County History Museum last month. The evening’s festivities included live music and refreshments reflecting the event’s theme of life in the 1950s—when the credit union first opened its doors. Immediately after, a live concert was held at the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Redwood City, just across the street from the museum. Featured artists were Blood, Sweat & Tears and singer Chuck Negron, former lead vocalist of Three Dog Night. The CU has nine members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Honored: Nancy Seguin, AVP/human resources manager at Workers' Credit Union, Fitchburg, Mass., has been named a 2012 Credit Union Hero by Banker & Tradesman, a Boston-based publisher of banking and real-estate data. The award recognizes CU professionals who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and the community, giving freely of their time, energy and resources for volunteerism, community service and charity. Seguin has been an employee team captain for the United Way of North Central Massachusetts and the Greater Gardner Relay for Life for the American Cancer Society.
American 1 Credit Union, Hillsdale, Mich., has received the “Giving Kids a Great Start Award” from Great Start of Hillsdale County for the CU’s work with kids and families. The CU holds free events, including, Hillsdale Kids’ Fest and American 1 Teen Idol Auditions. The CU has six members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Meridian Credit Union, Toronto, has been recognized as one of the Achievers 50 Most Engaged Workplaces™ in Canada. This annual award recognizes top employers that display leadership and innovation toward engaging their employees. The CU has one CUES member.
Security Service Federal Credit Union’s branch in Boerne, Texas, has received the Best of the Best Gold Recognition Award based on popular vote by the readers of the Boerne Star newspaper. The CU has five CUES members.
Merger: Three Ontario CUs have agreed to merge: Peoples Credit Union, Innisfil, ETCU Financial Credit Union, Etobicoke, and PACE Credit Union, Vaughan. The new CU will operate as PACE CU, with sub-branding at branch locations to correspond with their original bonds of association. PACE CU has one CUES member.
Community Involvement: Michigan State University Federal Credit Union, East Lansing, Mich., employees raised $30,634 for the Capital Area Humane Society, surpassing its goal of $24,000. The money was raised through employee donations and fundraisers including raffles, dress down days, a managers’ car wash, bake sales, and a putting outing. The CU has nine members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
CUES Supplier Member News: CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., has been ranked No. 75 on this year’s InformationWeek 500, a list of the top technology innovators in the U.S. The annual list was announced at the InformationWeek 500 Conference.
To provide its financial institution clients with valuable consumer behavior data, payments processor The Members Group, Des Moines, Iowa, has made an equity investment in data analytics firm IQR Consulting. The California firm uses data analysis to help companies anticipate market changes and respond to changing business conditions. Launch of an initial product prototype is planned for later this year. The product will provide data on cardholder behaviors, such as engagement and activation rates, providing an overall credit card portfolio health score, as well as tools for peer comparison. A comparable product is planned for debit card portfolios.
