Member News:

Retirement/Promotion: Steve Schipull, CCE, has been named the new CEO of Generations Federal Credit Union, San Antonio. Previously the CU’s chief financial officer, he will replace the retiring Tim F. Haegelin, who has served as the CU’s CEO since 1981.

Interim CEO: Jim Hayes, EVP/chief financial officer for Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., has been named interim CEO of the CU. He steps in after previous CEO Chris McDonald left to become CEO of Northwest Federal Credit Union, Herndon, Va.

Honored: Paul Trylko, president/CEO of Amplify Credit Union, Austin, Texas, was named one of the Austin Business Journal's 2012 Best CEOs. A winner in the non-profit category, Trylko was among six central Texas CEOs honored for a strong record of innovation, outstanding performance and leadership roles in the philanthropic, civic or political arenas.

Ventura County Credit Union, Ventura, Calif., earned first-place honors in the Ventura County Star’s Readers’ Choice 2012 Winners & Favorites as the No. 1 Bank/S&L for services in West Ventura County. The readers of the Ventura County Reporter also voted the CU as the No. 1 financial  institution  in  their  27th annual  Best  of  Ventura  County edition. The CU has six CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.

Merger: $2.4 million St. John's Federal Credit Union, San Marcos, Texas, has merged into Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union, Austin, which has one CUES member.

Community Involvement: Bethpage Federal Credit Union, Bethpage, N.Y., is the presenting sponsor of Arts Alive LI, October’s month-long celebration of the vibrant cultural offerings available to visitors to and residents of Long Island, N.Y. The CU has five CUES members.

Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., and its local hockey team, the K-Wings, have announced a unique sponsorship giving members many benefits, including: special ticket pricing; sponsorship of Education Day and Family Hockey Day in the Zoo; and offering Consumers Dollar Dog members (ages 2-12) the chance to participate in each home game’s Save of the Game. The CU has seven CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.

Royal Credit Union has donated $1 million to help construct a new Community Arts Center in Eau Claire, Wis. The gift from Royal CU, to be paid over five years, will be used to help build the center and includes naming rights of the 450-seat theater. The CU has three CUES members.

Visions Credit Union, Endwell, N.Y., will sponsor an entrepreneurship event called a “Startup Weekend” in Binghamton. Participants will each have one minute to pitch their technology startup ideas, and will then form teams to transform the top 15 winning concepts into a marketable business model. The remainder of the weekend is devoted to formulating the most popular ideas with the help of mentors and seasoned startup entrepreneurs. Sunday, teams will present their final ideas to a panel of judges, who will award prizes and services to the most innovative and well-thought-out business model. The CU has two CUES members.

CUES Supplier Member News: Georgann Smith, director of marketing and communications for The Members Group, Des Moines, Iowa, and past president of the Iowa chapter of the American Marketing Association, recently joined peers as a judge for the American Marketing Association international Chapter Excellence Awards competition.
