Honored: Consumers Credit Union, Kalamazoo, Mich., has been selected as a 2012 Best & Brightest™ Wellness Champion and one of Michigan’s Healthiest Employers. The Best & Brightest Wellness Champions highlights 35 Michigan companies that encourage a culture of wellness, and those that plan, implement and evaluate efforts in employee wellness promotion. Michigan’s Healthiest Employers award recognizes organizations committed to creating a healthy workplace. The award, from Crain’s Detroit Business in partnership with MiBiz and Priority Health, distinguishes companies throughout Michigan whose policies, programs and culture create healthy employees and workplaces. The CU has seven CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.

Community Involvement: Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., and 96.3 WDVD recently teamed up to promote the Genisys Credit Union Cash for Kids Contest targeting parents who want to educate their children about financial responsibility. The CU gave away $1,000 to support one lucky winner’s favorite non-profit youth program, club or association, which was the Killer Bees #33 Robotics Team at Notre Dame Prep. The CU has three CUES members.

To show appreciation and provide added value to its members, GTE Financial hosted its second annual “Memberfest” at its headquarters on Oct. 20. The event included:

  • family-friendly activities, prizes, music, food and refreshments;
  • the opportunity to meet CU representatives from every department;
  • financial education opportunities about retirement, virtual banking, credit theft and home buying;
  • free computer check-ups from GTE’s Techs on Tour;
  • free document shredding;
  • the opportunity to meet Tampa Bay Lightning celebrities;
  • and an electric car giveaway to one of four GTE Home Loan contest finalists.

The CU, in Tampa, Fla., has three CUES members.

Heritage Community Credit Union, Sacramento, is holding a Holiday Food Drive from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31 to benefit the Cordova Community Food Locker. The CU has four CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.

San Diego County Credit Union, San Diego, is returning as the presenting sponsor of the 22nd annual Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade. San Diego County CU has supported this event for the past 10 years. The CU has three CUES members.

Tinker Federal Credit Union, Oklahoma City, Okla., has awarded travel vouchers to 17 college students through its Win Your Break promotion. One grand-prize winner received a $2,000 voucher for travel expenses and 16 others received $500 vouchers. The promotion ran from Aug. 1-Sept. 15 and was open to full-time college students ages 18 and over. The CU has nine CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.

Twenty-one community leaders, professionals, and teachers kissed a pig at TruMark Financial Credit Union’s Second Annual Kiss-a-Pig Financial Literacy Fundraiser. Monies raised will support area schools in efforts to teach personal finance. Over the past three months, participants secured sponsors and donations to raise $35,000, more than double the amount raised last year, for the opportunity to kiss a pig in support of financial literacy. The CU, in Trevose, Pa., has one CUES member.

CUES Supplier Member News: CO-OP Financial Services, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and the SHAZAM Network have signed an agreement that will allow members of participating credit unions to access surcharge-free and shared deposit ATMs nationwide.
