Appointed: Michael Castellana, president/CEO of $2 billion SEFCU, Albany, N.Y., has been named chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York's Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council. In addition, Glenn Barks, president/CEO of $1.8 billion First Community Credit Union, Chesterfield, Mo., was named to the 2013 edition of the CDIAC.
Honored: Karla Salisbury, CME, CSE, CCE , president/CEO of KEMBA Credit Union, Indianapolis, is the Indiana Credit Union League’s 2012 recipient of the Professional Achievement Award. Individuals are nominated for their professional accomplishments, their commitment to the credit union movement and the contributions they make to their credit union and community.
At the myCUmortgage Annual CU Partner Conference, Rogue Federal Credit Union, Medford, Ore., was presented an Award for Excellence in Mortgage Lending as the New Partner of the Year in the large credit union category. Merger: $239 million Prevail Credit Union, Seattle, will merge into $782 million Harborstone Credit Union, Lakewood, Wash. Prevail CU has six CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership. Harborstone CU has one CUES member.
New Position/Retirement: Brian Sherrick, formerly chief operating officer at Postal Credit Union, Woodbury, Minn., is the new president/CEO there. He succeeds Russ Plunkett, who is retiring.
Community Involvement: American 1 Credit Union, Jackson, Mich., donated World Series Tickets to help a food drive. For every non-perishable item donated, community members received one entry into a drawing for four box seat tickets to a World Series Tiger’s Game. 10,035 non-perishable food items were donated and delivered to the Salvation Army immediately after the ticket giveaway. The CU has six CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., recently served as a Platinum Sponsor for the 4th Annual New Jersey Run for the Fallen. The event, which spans the course of 172 miles over three days, is run to memorialize the lives of soldiers killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. The CU has 12 CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Employees at Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union, St. Louis, rallied to support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at the Light the Night charity walk in Forest Park. The CU contributed over $1,500 to help fight leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma. The CU has one CUES member.
Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., was the major sponsor for the 12th Annual Stonewall Pumpkin Festival, Oct. 13 at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm. The event attracted 750 people who picked their perfect pumpkins to carve at this nationally registered historic site. Another 750 people attended later that night for the lighting ceremony to see 350 pumpkins lit up on the stone walls. The CU has three CUES members.
Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union, Van Nuys, Calif., which serves the Los Angeles Police and their families, recently conducted a half-day “Building Relationships Summit” in downtown Los Angeles. Representatives from the Los Angeles Police Museum to the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the LAPD Family Support Group to the L.A. Police Emerald Society and others gathered to network and learn more about strengthening and building their organizations, as well as encouraging greater contributions and volunteer support. The CU has 10 CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
The MAX4Kids Foundation, sponsored by MAX Credit Union, Montgomery, Ala., recently hosted its 13th annual Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament hosted 192 players, and more than 110 corporate sponsors and players together raised over $33,000 for the MAX4Kids Foundation. The CU has five CUES members.
