Obituary: Richard M. Heins, who led CUES Supplier Member CUNA Mutual Group, Madison, Wis., from 1988 to 1995, died May 3 at age 85. He began working with CMG as a consultant in 1956, while a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin. During the next four decades, he had an influential hand in numerous corporate developments, while working with almost every department. Heins was inducted into the CUES Hall of Fame in 1995. New Position: Tyrone Muse is the new CEO of Visions Federal Credit Union, Endicott, N.Y. Previously he was chief financial officer of Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He succeeds Frank Berrish who retired.
Sb1 Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia, has hired Robert Werner as its new president/CEO. Previously, he was chief operating officer of Two River Community Bank, Middletown, N.J. He succeeds Tom Swierzy, who is retiring.
Deonne Edwards is the new chief operations officer of Mazuma Credit Union, Kansas City, Mo.
Name Change: Great Falls Teachers Federal Credit Union, Great Falls, Mont., has changed its name to Embark Federal Credit Union. The CU has one CUES member.
Honored: Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., has received the 2013 Corp! DiSciTech Award, which recognizes businesses in Michigan that are leading the way in digital, science and technology. The CU has a dedicated group of employees who assist with generating ideas, while seeking like-minded organizations to help incorporate the best practices in the industry. They also focus on engaging with members to gain insight on current needs. The CU has two CUES members.
Navy Federal Credit Union, Vienna, Va., has been named one of the Most Valuable Employers for Military by CivilianJobs.com for the third consecutive year. The CU was selected for its commitment to helping military-experienced job seekers and veterans acclimate to the civilian workforce. Navy FCU reports that more than 76 percent of its workforce indicated they have some type of military affiliation— whether through an active-duty or retired spouse or family member, or through their own current or previous military service. The 2013 Most Valuable Employers for Military was open to all U.S.-based companies. The winners were selected based on surveys in which employers outlined their recruiting, training and retention plans that best serve military service members and veterans. The CU has four CUES members.
Community Involvement: In April, Members Advantage Credit Union, Michigan City, Ind., collected shampoo and conditioner, non-perishable food items, and more to send to troops overseas. The CU has six CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Advantis Credit Union, Portland, Ore., is launching its third Annual GROW Fund to support underprivileged, at-risk children, and enhancement of community spaces, education, safety and the arts. GROW is a $50,000 fund to assist small to moderate-sized non-profits with funding for projects that promise long-term benefits to the local community. Non-profits are encouraged to apply for a grant for amounts up to $10,000.
