Retirement/Promotion: Sherod Halliburton is the new president/CEO of Manatee Community Federal Credit Union, Bradenton, Fla. He succeeds Cindy Barco who retired after 35 years of service. Halliburton has been employed by the credit union as executive vice president since February 2012.
Promotion: Todd Fortner, CCE, chief financial officer for Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union, Chattanooga, Tenn., has been promoted to executive vice president.
Honored: Lisa Nicholas, VP/marketing at Amplify Credit Union, Austin, Texas, was named 2013 Communicator of the Year by the Austin Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators. The award recognizes executive-level communicators who demonstrate exceptional leadership, management, and communications skills; develop communication strategies that contribute to the ongoing success of their organization; employ effective internal and external communications; and communicate the role of leader in communications.
Achieva Credit Union, Dunedin, Fla., has been named “Credit Union of the Year” in the more than $500 million asset category by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates. The CU received the award for its outstanding achievements in the areas of day-to-day operations, financial prowess and community outreach. The CU has 11 CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
The readers of the Hillsborough, N.J., Patch have spoken, and named Affinity Federal Credit Union’s Hillsborough branch the area’s best bank. The CU has 47 CUES members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group Membership.
Merger: Goldenwest Credit Union, Ogden, Utah, and USU Charter Credit Union, Logan, Utah, plan to merge. Goldenwest CU has four CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Community Involvement: BCU, Vernon Hills, Ill., has donated a total of $5,000 to the Wildlife Conservation Network and Ecotrust. The donations were collected from BCU’s Earth Day Promotion, which encouraged members to reduce their use of paper products by converting to online statements and bill-pay enrollment. In the promotion, BCU donated $5 for every member who vowed to go green by participating and reducing their environmental footprint.
Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation, Herndon, Va., sponsored the Night of Magic Ball, an event that offers chronically ill patients and their families at Inova Children’s Hospital in Falls Church, Va., an evening away from the stresses of being in the hospital. Northwest FCU has 17 CUES members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group Membership.
CUES Supplier Member News: The first phase of a comprehensive marketing initiative to rebrand and promote credit union shared branching to consumers will be launched later this month by CO-OP Financial Services, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. In mid-July, the company will provide participating credit unions with launch kits containing access to new signage, including logos and graphics; new Web/digital program assets, advertisements and locator details. This material is being provided about one month in advance of the “go public” date of Aug. 13, when CO-OP and credit unions will begin displaying the new CO-OP Shared Branch brand.
CU24, Tallahassee, Fla., has announced that its board has elected Joan Nolan, VP/operation support for IBM Southeast Employees’ Federal Credit Union, Boca Raton, Fla., as chairman and Paul Numbers Jr., president/CEO of State Employees Credit Union, Jacksonville, Fla., as vice chairman. Becky Hulett, chief financial officer of 121 Financial Credit Union, Jacksonville, continues as secretary/treasurer. Three other CUES members serve on the CU24 board:
- David Mooney, president/CEO, Alliant Credit Union, Chicago;
- David Southall, president/CEO, Innovations Federal Credit Union, Panama City, Fla.; and
- Dan Wollin, president/CEO, PCM Employees Credit Union, Green Bay, Wis.
Marc Paine has been named VP/sales and marketing for INTECH (Innovative Technology, Inc.), Omaha, Neb. His responsibilities will involve management of the company’s sales efforts as well as supervising marketing communications.
