New Position: Erin Mendez, CCE, EVP/chief operating officer at Schools First Federal Credit Union, Santa Ana, Calif., has been named CEO of Patelco Credit Union, Pleasanton, Calif. She succeeds Ken Burns, CCE, who left the CU in May.
Retirement: Steve Post, president/CEO of Vermont State Employees Credit Union, Montpelier, Vt., is retiring. The board is beginning the process of recruiting and identifying qualified candidates for the job.
Corporate News: Corporate Central Credit Union, Muskego, Wis., and Delta Dental of Wisconsin have entered into an agreement, that allows Corporate Central CU to offer unique dental and vision plan offerings to Wisconsin member credit unions. The CU has one CUES member.
Honored: Mountain America Credit Union, West Jordan, Utah, was recently named among the top 100 U.S. debit and credit card issuers in the U.S., based on recent research from The Nilson Report (http://www.nilsonreport.com/index.php). Mountain America CU was one of 24 credit unions to receive this recognition. The CU has 118 CUES members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group Membership.
Community Involvement: American 1 Credit Union, Jackson, Mich., hosted three Kids’ Fest events in Jackson, Hillsdale and Chelsea over the course of a week in June. The events promote learning and safety for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Vendors are brought in from the area to provide an educational game and a prize for the children to partake in at their booth. The CU has six CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
For the third year in a row, more than 50 CoastHills Federal Credit Union, Lompoc, Calif., employees, friends and family members conquered a strenuous climb to raise money for the Cottage Children’s Hospital. After cresting Gaviota Peak in 2011 and San Luis Obispo’s Bishop’s Peak in 2012, this year’s route took them around the steep upper loop at the La Purisima Mission in Lompoc on June 23. Each hiker received sponsorships from friends and co-workers, which allowed CoastHills FCU to raise a total of $10,000. The CU has 11 CUES members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group Membership.
CUES Supplier Member News: Online registration is now open for PSCU’s second annual competitive thinkfest, KnockOut 2013. The 24-hour brainstorming and innovation summit, open to employees of the CUSO and its member-owner credit unions, is scheduled for Sept. 26-27 at PSCU’s St. Petersburg, Fla., headquarters. The collaborative event features five-person teams with each team seeking to create a working prototype of a cutting-edge solution or service that will help credit unions grow and prosper. A panel of judges from PSCU’s strategic partners will evaluate the teams’ concept submissions and select three finalists. PSCU employees and the participating credit union teams will vote to determine the final team rankings and prize winners.
