Blog: Game On: Today’s younger employees are conditioned for immediate gratification and feedback through their use of social media, where activity is recognized with “likes” and “comments.” Contrast that with a workplace where performance feedback is usually formal and infrequent. Retirement/Promotion: Ed Gvazdinskas, president/CEO of Heartland Credit Union, Springfield, Ill., will retire next February after 38 years of service. He will be succeeded by COO Tom Lex, who has been with the CU for 33 years.
Anniversary: Andrews Federal Credit Union held its 65th annual meeting June 24 at its headquarters in Suitland, Md. The CU has 13 CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Honored: Hiway Federal Credit Union, St. Paul, Minn., has been proclaimed a Yellow Ribbon Company by Minnesota’s lieutenant governor. The honor recognizes companies that support those affected by military deployments and enable successful transition into the workplace. The CU has one CUES member.
San Diego County Credit Union was recently selected as the 2013 Business of the Year by the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce. The CU was selected for having outstanding business practices in the San Diego North community and honored for entrepreneurship, sustainability, productivity and effort. The CU has three CUES members.
Member Assistance: Nearly 100 Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, Radcliff, Ky., members who are federal employees or federal contractors have taken advantage of the CU’s Furlough Assistance options, which include interest free loans for 30 days; reduced payments on existing loans; and no penalty for early withdrawal from share certificates of deposit. The CU introduced these options to help Department of the Army civilian employees and contractors facing possible furloughs or loss of pay because of the sequestration. The CU has eight CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Mergers: Mountain America Credit Union (with 115 CUES members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group Membership), West Jordan, Utah, is merging in A+ Credit Union, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Simcoe Credit Union, Heyburn, Idaho, is merging into Connections Federal Credit Union, Pocatello, Idaho, which has one CUES member.
U.S. Coast Guard Community Credit Union, Baltimore, has merged into Tower Federal Credit Union, Laurel, Md., which has three CUES members.
Firestone Financial Services Credit Union, Anaheim, Calif., has merged into Credit Union of Southern California, Whittier, Calif., which has one CUES member.
Southwestern Telco Federal Credit Union is merging into Blue Eagle Credit Union, both of Roanoke, Va., in September. Blue Eagle CU has one CUES member.
New Name: First United Federal Credit Union, Grandville, Mich., has changed its name to First United Credit Union. The CU has five CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
66 Federal Credit Union, Bartlesville, Okla., has changed its name to Truity Credit Union. The CU has nine CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Community Involvement: For the past 10 years, Postal Credit Union, Woodbury, Minn., Meals on Wheels volunteers have delivered a nutritious meal and friendly smile to elderly and disabled recipients in the North St. Paul area. CU volunteers have delivered nearly 5,000 meals. In addition, the CU recently donated $1,500 to the program. The CU has two CUES members as part of its CUES Advancing Management Group Membership.
CUES Supplier Member News: Q2ebanking has changed its name to Q2 and has partnered with Geezeo to integrate Geezeo’s engagement banking platform to not only provide personal financial management, but also to enable financial institutions to deliver highly relevant content from within the online banking environment. In addition, Q2 recently unveiled its new headquarters in Austin’s research corridor. Located in the new Aspen Lake One business center, the company occupies 85,000 square feet on three floors. As an anchor tenant in the new facility, Q2 was able to custom build a space that fosters the collaborative work environment the company is known for. With space for up to 500 people, the move is essential in supporting the company’s growth strategy.
