Retirement/Promotion: Christopher Jillson is retiring as president/CEO of Sandia Laboratory Federal Credit Union, Albuquerque, N.M., in March 2014. He will be succeeded by Robert Chavez, currently EVP/chief operating officer.
Honored: In recognition of his visionary approach to leadership and extraordinary commitment to the credit union movement, the National Credit Union Foundation is pleased to announce Gary Oakland, retired president/CEO of BECU in Seattle, as one of three winners of the 2014 Herb Wegner Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement.$2 billion
Appointed: Bill Raker, CCE, president/CEO of US Federal Credit Union, Burnsville, Minn., was recently named to the AccountAbility Minnesota Board of Directors. AccountAbility MN is a non-profit organization providing free tax preparation and financial services to low- and moderate-income taxpayers by enlisting the help of hundreds of volunteers. Raker and US FCU have partnered with AAM for the past 10 years to provide free tax filing assistance for income qualified residents in the Twin Cities Metro area through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. This year, CU employees volunteered a total of 275 hours through this program to process 154 tax returns for community members.
Acquisition: Five Star Credit Union, Dothan, Ala., plans to buy $23 million Flint River National Bank, Camilla, Ga. The CU has one CUES member.
Genisys Credit Union, Pontiac, Mich., was named “Best of the Best Credit Union” in Clarkston, Mich., by readers of The Clarkston News. The CU has two CUES members.
Merger: $350 million SkyOne Federal Credit Union, Hawthorne, Calif., is merging with $20 million AM Federal Credit Union, Gardenia, Calif. SkyOne FCU has seven CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
Name Change: Monterey County Employee Credit Union, Salinas, Calif., is changing its name to allU.S. Credit Union. The CU has one CUES member.
Community Involvement: Christian Community Credit Union, San Dimas, Calif., donated $50,000 to American Baptist International Ministries to support various missions’ projects worldwide. The amount will go toward AIDS prevention in Africa, medical outreach in the Caribbean, church planting in Central America, and evangelistic efforts in Asia. The donation is the completion of a $150,000 commitment the CU made to IM over a three-year-period. The CU has seven CUES members as part of its CUES Executive Group Membership.
