John E. Oliver

John Oliver’s work with board members has been hailed as a breakthrough in director education.

Oliver’s career in the financial services industry spans more than 35 years, working both in Europe and the United States. For the past 18 years he has built a thriving consulting practice with focuses on strategic planning, strategic management and governance throughout the financial services sector. His company’s FIplanner Strategic Planning System^© for community-based financial institutions has been hailed as “a logical, step-by-step process without all the management-speak that’s so often involved.”

Through his company, Laurel Management Systems, Inc., Oliver also specializes in the design, development, and implementation of instructor-led training programs for management and directors. His consulting services and training programs are utilized by institutions of all sizes and types, from small community-based organizations to major multi-national institutions. His work with directors from all types of financial institution involves a constant striving for improved standards of governance.

He is on the faculty of the BAI Graduate School of Banking; he is the faculty lead and curriculum designer of the CUES School of Applied Strategic Management; and he is listed in the U.S. publications Who’s Who in Finance and Industry and Who’s Who in the World, as well as in the Dictionary of International Biography published in Cambridge, England. 

Oliver is the author of the book What Really Is Expected of Me?—The Directors Guidebook and has contributed to articles in various financial services publications.
