Austin, a Principal at DSI, approaches his work with intellectual interest as well as a sense of adventure. His early career led him to Botswana, where he helped advise the government on the formation of parastals like Botswana Power Corporation. “I’ve always been interested in how businesses evolve and thrive, and sought out experiences where I could see them at a moment of change.”
A cross-sector consultant by inclination, with in-depth healthcare operating experience, Austin served clients such as GE, Hitachi, Alcon, Abbott, Omron, Walgreens, Pfizer Animal Health, DePuy, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Lincoln Financial, SC Johnson and Merrill Lynch. He is skilled at coaching executives, leading management meetings and developing training programs that help leaders get to the heart of their strategic challenges.
Austin built his consulting skills at Arthur D. Little, Inc., where he advised Aramco in Saudi Arabia and helped create an HMO for a major hospital in Chicago. His deep empathy for the day-to-day challenges of management come from the 12 years he spent at Baxter Healthcare, where he rose to VP of Strategy for a key division.
Austin earned a B.A. from Yale College and a joint MPA and MA in Urban Planning from the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University. He teaches at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management (where he was awarded the “Most Distinguished Corporate Education Faculty Member, 2010” award) and the Rush University Medical Center, Department of Health Systems Management. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Aresty Institute of Executive Education, Wharton. Author of several articles, Austin is a frequent contributor at industry conferences.
