My name is Kelsey and I am CUES.

I started out as an intern with A+ Federal Credit Union, an internship I got through connections I had from working at Filene. I was then hired full time. As a community education specialist, I handle the credit union’s social media and financial education for youth and young adults, including presentations and workshops. I also help train others to handle the presentations.

I like being part of the credit union community because of the sharing of ideas; you can run things past others. I don’t think any other industry has that much sharing of information, and helping of each other. In other industries, people are always afraid that if they help you or give you an idea, it’ll get out there before they have the chance to take credit for it. Not so in the credit union industry.

I found out about the Next Top Credit Union Exec competition on Twitter. It was a great experience, and made me realize how much I can get done in a short amount of time. I had the backing of my credit union—its resources, as well as time to work on it—which was important.

Although the experience was great, I don’t think I’ll enter again; I’d like to give someone else a chance. There is so much growth, you learn so much—it should be open to everyone.

Although I joined CUES because of the competition, I think the NextGen Membership was a great idea. CUES used to have the reputation of just being for the top people, there was exclusivity about it; but now, having it open to others is great.

I love all the resources I have at my fingertips through CUES—I get so much information though their e-mails and website. All the people I met through the Next Top CU Exec competition were fantastic—they are the best and brightest young people in the movement.

My future aspirations change daily! But, no matter which path I take, I know CUES will help me get there.

My name is Kelsey, from A+ Federal Credit Union, and I am CUES.
