I joined the credit union movement in March 1998 when I was elected to the credit committee at Fort Knox Federal Credit Union. I served on that committee until May 2005 when I was elected to the board of directors. That’s when I joined CUES.
I’m finishing my second term on the board, and have served as its secretary since May 2009. I also chair the loan and delinquency review and governance committees, and sit on the board-CEO relations committee.
As an Army retiree, I appreciate having a friendly financial institution members can deal with from wherever they are assigned. With our 76,000 military and civilian members subject to world-wide deployment, this is a vital interest to me.
I also want to be sure we are living up to our motto of “People Helping People,” and stay true to our mission statement of improving the financial lives of our member-owners. We do this by providing members with higher rates on savings, charging lower rates on loans and low or no fees for services.
CUES has helped me in accomplishing these goals through their professional conferences with relevant speakers who are knowledgeable of current credit union issues. CUES conferences provide attendees with optional learning sessions, enabling them to tailor learning to their specific needs.
As more and more regulations are imposed on credit unions, staying abreast of changes and their real-world impact on the natural person credit union is critical. CUES is continually at the forefront, providing this information to their members through online education opportunities, conferences and publications.
CUES always picks conference locations which facilitate the attendee focusing on learning. They always leave time for volunteer networking, which is just as important as what is learned in the formal presentations.
My name is Dick, from Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, Fort Knox, Ky., and I am CUES.
