CUES has been a big part of my professional development—in fact, I credit CUES for helping me to make the decision to go back to school to acquire my MBA.
My credit union experience goes back to the second grade—my parents operated a credit union for electricians from our basement from 1959 to 1988. I hand-posted ledger cards in 1972 and was officially added to the payroll in 1979. We relocated the credit union to my home in 1988 and operated from there until 2000.
Now, fast forward to today—attending CEO Institute helped me grow as a leader. To have had the opportunity to work with the high caliber of professors at the three CEO Institute universities was such an honor.
I learned that you can take on a big project and see it through. Thanks to everything I learned at CEO Institute—in combination with the Master’s degree—I was able to write a business plan that would expand our credit union to a county charter. My request was approved very quickly, and my credit union has since grown by $1 million since December 2008.
Although my credit union has a small budget, attending CEO/Executive Team Network was highly worthwhile—and the sense of renewal and rejuvenation that you get from attending is priceless.
As I look to the future, I would like to see my credit union—which is at $13.8 million now—double in size in the next five years. I know that CUES will be able to assist me in visionary planning; my experience with CUES has helped me work outside of the box and think ahead.
As the CEO of a small credit union, I’ve also found the classes available through CUES Online University® to be very valuable, for both myself and for my employees. My subscription to Credit Union Management™ magazine is a huge help to me each month. And, I love the networking experiences; it’s always exciting to see my fellow CEO Institute classmates and see how far they’ve come along.
Being a CUES member has empowered me to access a worldwide network that wasn’t available to me before. I definitely have encouraged people to join CUES—I tell them that CUES is an “executive experience”—not just an educational experience, and it’s incredible.
