My name is Rob, from USA Federal Credit Union, San Diego, and I am CUES.

Without a doubt, the networking and the caliber of learning at CUES events are my favorite aspects of membership. Having been through CUES’ CEO Institute I, II & III as well as Advanced Leadership Institute, I have experienced some incredible learning that you just don’t get from attending other conferences. It’s simply a higher level of learning. Once you belong, you clearly see the benefits.

I joined CUES in December 2001 at the encouragement of my CEO, Mary Cunningham. Mary had been a member of CUES for many years and at the time was serving on the CUES Board of Directors. Her reasons for wanting me to join were focused on professional development and networking opportunities – which I have since found to be priceless.

I have worked at USA Fed since 1996 and held a wide variety of positions. My first position was as investment portfolio manager. Next I worked as the Internal Auditor which provided great exposure to all aspects of the organization and prepared me well for future roles on the senior management team. When Mary Cunningham became our CEO in the fall of 2001, I was given the opportunity to join the senior team in a new role called VP of Strategic Initiatives. This role was fantastic because it got me even further involved in various aspects of credit union operations. This helped a lot with the scenario planning project assigned at the end of CEO Institute I.

As a member of the senior management team, I have had the opportunity to oversee many areas of the credit union from branch operations to collections. Currently my position is SVP/Chief Strategy Officer, overseeing marketing, training, facilities and service excellence (a position focused on Net Promoter). I love my career at USA Fed and look forward to someday using my experience to become a CEO of a credit union.

CUES has been a huge part of my career development, giving me exposure to a wide variety of topics and new perspectives on familiar situations. I have also found networking through CUES to be valuable. The relationships I have developed all over the country provide valuable insights from people I admire as colleagues.

If there is one organization I can honestly say I look to for growth opportunities, it’s definitely CUES.
