Great Plains FCU is seeking its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will help transform the organization and shape its future. With a focus on strategic planning, financial stability, and operational oversight, the CEO will collaborate with the board and leadership team to advance the credit union’s vision and purpose. The CEO will guide the organization through a period of transformation, ensuring that members feel confident their financial well-being remains our highest priority.
Strong operational oversight and communication skills are fundamental as the CEO ensures that Great Plains FCU runs efficiently, aligns with strategic goals, and is prepared to meet growth challenges, pivoting when necessary. A primary focus for the CEO will be on organizational development and employee engagement, which are key for establishing a robust foundation for growth. The CEO will empower the team to achieve collective goals while creating a healthy corporate culture that engages employees, aligns teams from the top down, and administers the credit union’s policies. Ultimately, the CEO will lead with innovation, collaboration, and a service-oriented mindset, driving Great Plains FCU to make a meaningful impact on its members and the communities it serves.
The CEO will serve as the face of the credit union and represent the community by leading with integrity and a deep understanding of the diverse needs of members, employees, and the community. By actively engaging with local organizations to enhance the organization’s presence, the CEO will build a vibrant network in the community to help contribute to its long-term growth and development.
This role requires strong competencies in strategic planning, financial management, community relations, and staff development. The CEO must inspire and guide the organization toward sustainable growth and continued success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the credit union’s financial sustainability through ongoing strategic planning, thinking, and management.
- Advance the credit union’s vision and purpose.
- Carefully balance financial, member, employee, and community needs by exemplifying the credit union difference.
- Direct and manage the operations of the credit union and its subsidiaries.
- Adhere to cooperative principles.
- Help shape the future of the organization.
- Be guided by the governance framework approved by the board of directors.
- Direct and manage the operations of the credit union.
- Skillfully balance the financial needs with those of the members, employees, and community by embodying the credit union difference.
Type and Years of Experience in a Leadership Role
- Seven to 10 years in an executive leadership role with responsibility for a significant percentage of the enterprise.
- 15 plus years of financial institution experience.
- Credit union experience is strongly preferred with an advanced understanding of credit union operations.
- Demonstrable expertise in leading others and developing and coaching employees.
- Proven experience in strategic planning, operational leadership, execution of strategic initiatives, and meeting and exceeding goals set by the board.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field.
- MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
- Ongoing learning in matters related to financial institution leadership.
- Attended asset-liability, investment, and credit risk-type seminars and classes.
- CCUE and CUDE designation preferred.
