SVP of Federal Government Affairs

California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues

Ontario, CA

Position Description

Are We the Place For You?
The California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues are the trade associations serving California’s and Nevada’s Credit Unions. The Senior Vice President of Federal Government Affairs works with member credit unions and federally elected officials from both states to create a regulatory and legislative environment where credit unions excel. Our Core Values demand that we put Members First, Advocate for their interests, deliver Excellence, Listen/Learn/Innovate and always operate as One Team. The SVP-Federal Government Affairs will demonstrate these values while serving as our chief lobbyist, aligning our member interests and getting results in Washington.

An independent organization, we closely collaborate with colleagues at other state and national credit union trade associations to advance a 535-seat federal legislative strategy that ensures an operating environment where credit unions deliver on their mission of financial well-being for all.

With headquarters in southern and northern California (Ontario/Sacramento) and key partners in Washington D.C., our SVP-Federal Government Affairs may reside in either of these locations, traveling between locations as needed to strengthen relationships with team members, legislators, and regulators. A highly qualified candidate will be motivated by a salary range with a mid-point of $210,000.

Is This the Career For You?
The SVP-Federal Government Affairs will have a history of building relationships with a large delegation in Washington D.C. Ideally, these connections will include the 58 federally elected officials in California and Nevada and the staff in their offices. This experience will have created a passion for connecting constituents with elected officials and crafting messages that create change and positive impact.

The SVP-Federal Government Affairs will effectively manage Democratic and Republican relationships, putting personal political affiliations aside in the best interest of credit unions. Working alongside a small team (three direct reports who are not directly engaged in advocacy efforts and contract lobbyists), this organizational leader will greatly impact how credit unions build financial well-being for consumers throughout California and Nevada, while influencing the national agenda through coordination and collaboration with other state and national credit union trade associations.

Listening to our member credit unions and liaising with our Advocacy Committee, you will guide our political, legislative, and regulatory agenda and shape communication that ensures members’ needs are appropriately voiced and well-represented. You will inspire and motivate member credit unions to engage with elected officials through Hill visits, campaign involvement, and grassroots efforts.

Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills will lead to strong relationships with key stakeholders (elected officials, their staff, credit union CEOs, other lobbyists, and team members). Strategic thinking and an understanding of the political environment will lead to great results.
