The credit union’s CEO drives a strong and healthy corporate culture that engages employees, creates financial success for members, and is the credit union’s face in the community. They will foster employee relationships, motivate, inspire, coach, and mentor the senior team while creating a collaborative leadership model and ensuring the credit union’s policies are uniformly understood. The CEO provides the leadership to steer the institution forward on a steady course that fulfills the strategy and vision of the board’s established goals. The CEO functions in a responsive manner instead of a reactive one and can adapt to situations as they arise. They are philanthropy focused and always looking for opportunities to serve the El Paso community.

The CEO needs mastery in recognizing the marketplace dynamics, helping the board understand risks and rewards, and participating in rigorous conversations with the board to propose and encourage innovative thinking balanced with fiduciary soundness. It is imperative to ensure the credit union’s financial sustainability through ongoing strategic planning, evaluation, and direction. As CEO, you must adapt, act proactively, and change course if necessary while remaining accountable for your actions. Lastly, the CEO should understand the priorities of the stakeholders, board, members, and employees to bring the credit union’s total value to the membership. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, marketing or other business-related field required.
  • Master’s degree in finance or business administration preferred
  • CUES Certified Chief Executive (CCE) preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in a senior leadership role in financial institution, preferably in a credit union
  • Served as a number-two executive in a larger organization or as CEO of a financial institution of relevant complexity
  • Demonstrated community involvement and volunteerism
