Mary is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, and served 21 years on active duty as an intelligence and logistics officer, mostly in Asia. She earned a PhD in economics, and has taught at the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and in the graduate school for Colorado State University.

When not traveling, Mary is usually found with her dogs and wine.
