How to Leverage Tech to Achieve Economic Scale
Tim Neiman, CEO, Dynamic Edge; Mike Robins, COO, Dynamic Edge
While credit union consolidation has held steady at 3.5% per year for the past 40 years, the average asset size of credit unions continues to grow, with more organizations over the $1B threshold than ever before. Increasing cyber security threats and NCUA compliance compel credit unions to maximize their technology investment or face extinction. No longer exclusively a cost center, technology offers credit unions a massive opportunity to achieve economic scale. This session will identify 2025’s most important strategic investments and describe how to balance internal tech teams versus external service providers. For smaller credit unions, the session will recommend ways to achieve tech scale, while also preparing their environments for merger. For larger credit unions, the session will highlight how to evaluate the right tech elements within an acquisition target.

AI is Here: Build a Secure Foundation for Your Credit Union
Tim Neiman, CEO, Dynamic Edge; Mike Robins, COO, Dynamic Edge
Credit unions are rapidly exploring artificial intelligence for fraud detection, automation, and member service, but few are prepared for the security risks that come with it. According to the Financial Services Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), over 60% of financial institutions using AI report increased risk of data exposure. This session will not focus on AI tools, but rather, the network and security foundation needed before adoption. Topics include Zero Trust, vendor access, and data governance. Attendees will leave with a clear checklist to assess readiness, protect member data, and meet evolving NCUA expectations.

Governance that Grows with You
John Conant, Chief Financial Officer (Retired) & Governance Architect
As today’s credit unions grow in size, complexity, and responsibility, establishing a clear, codified governance model and risk structure has never been more essential. This practical, two-part session explores how to build and sustain an Organizational Framework that truly works. This isn’t theory, it’s a roadmap forged through real-world experience and decades of boardroom insight. From bylaws and board policies to committee charters and regulatory alignment, you’ll examine the transformation from informal legacy practices to a modern governance model. Learn how one credit union developed a scalable, 600-page framework to support growth, ensure accountability, and meet regulatory expectations while staying true to its cooperative mission.

John Conant, Chief Financial Officer (Retired) & Governance Architect

Through a live example of an ERM program, you’ll explore key elements such as risk appetite setting, Key Risk Indicator (KRI) development, risk ratings by category, and board-level oversight tools. Gain an insider’s view of what works, and what to avoid, when formalizing board governance, along with practical templates and structural ideas to take back to your credit union. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of how governance and risk intersect in times of expansion or crisis, informed by real-world experience from those who have successfully navigated the transition and helped write the playbook.

The New Economy: Forget the Fed – Ignore the Forecast
Mike Schenk, Principal, People Not Profit LLC
In the good old days, Federal Reserve policy drove consumer behavior and directly determined the course of credit union operations. Forecasting was easy. Planning was fun. Today, however, the Fed is much less relevant. Underlying labor market weakness and broad increases in consumer prices raise the specter of stagflation. Uncertainty and instability rule. Black swans circle menacingly like vultures. Forecasting is now exceedingly difficult. Planning seems nearly impossible. This lively discussion outlines dangerous forces driving the New Economy, explores Schenk’s Dismal Dashboard of Doom and provides a detailed action plan to ensure your credit union’s success – come what may.
